East Wing
We are adding on to the cabin! The addition is 14'X20' and will have a loft like the existing cabin.
06-15-05
Day one Whitney and Adam re-leveled the existing cabin and built and set the foundation for the new addition.
06-16-05
Working on the floor.
Keeping it all together.
The completed floor system.
The logs were delivered late in the day but now the "fun" begins.
06-17-05
Pulling the bark with a draw knife.
Planing the inside surface so we wouldn't have to do it after we build the wall.
A hard day's work done. Over 1100 feet of logs peeled and surfaced.
06-18-05
Making the spline boards and planing the beams a friend milled with his chainsaw.
One of the two dados we had to cut into the existing cabin for the spline beam so the two cabins will become one. It started raining this afternoon just in time for Adam to head to the radio station for his normal shift, God's perfect timing.
06-20-05
Opening the roof up.
The first logs are down!
The spline that lets us join the old and the new.
Running the log screws in.
Squaring up the ends.
The jig to cut the spline notch.
We put up six foot of wall today!
06-22-05
Those logs get heavier and heavier the higher you get.
The logs are set!
Adam and Chad tearing the roof off the existing cabin.
Making sure the wall is straight.
And the loft is in!
Chad Martin, a college buddy of Adam's, and Ken Smoll, a co-worker of Chad's, were in Fairbanks for business and came down to help for the day. Thanks Guys!
06-23-05
Today's project was setting the ridge beam and putting the valley in.
"OK, now how are we going to do this?"
We pick this end up first.
Then you go pick up the other end.
Looking more and more like a house.
06-24-05
It's been raining lately but we are still making progress. We framed the dormers and closed in the main gable before we made a supply run to Fairbanks.
06-27-05
Getting closer.
Starting to put the metal roof on. The goal is to be "dried in" by the time Whitney heads home Thursday.
06-29-05
Working on the ridge-cap.
It's dried in! Let it rain.
From bare ground to dried-in in 14 days! Lots more to do still but we are well on our way.
Thanks Whitney for all your help and thanks God for wonderful weather and safety!
