The "Tripod". Every spring the town places a wooden tripod in the river ice and attaches a cable to a clock. People buy $2.50 tickets to guess the day and time the tripod starts to move down river. The winners split an average of $300,000.
The "Tripod" fell through but that doesn't count. It has to move down stream 100' before the winner is announced and spring is officially here.
